Urška Perenič, Miran Hladnik: Branje Jamnice v času socialnih sprememb. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 5–15.
Prežihov »roman soseske« Jamnica (1945), ki je nastal pod vplivom tuje in domače literarne klasike in žanrskega vzorca kmečke povesti, je bil ob izidu uspešnica. Vaško skupnost v tem kolektivnem romanu ohranjajo predvsem različne folklorne oblike družabnosti, katerih opisi niso pripovedni okras, ampak so vtkani v socialno sporočilo romana, ter navezanost članov skupnosti na zemljo, nekakšen naturni vitalizem. Preživitvena strategija skupnosti v času ekonomske krize in na obzorju druge svetovne vojne pripelje do »socialnega eksperimenta«, tj. do sklenitve socialnega pakta gruntarjev z bajtarji.

Urška Perenič, Miran Hladnik: The Reading of Jamnica in a Time of Social Changes. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 5–15.
Prežih’s “neighbourhood novel” Jamnica (1945), which was written under the influence of foreign and Slovene literary classics as well as of the genre model of the rural novel, met with success on its publication. In this collective novel the village community retains above all the various folklore forms of sociability, but rather than simply being narrative ornamentation the descriptions of these forms are woven into the social message of the novel. Another characteristic is the attachment of the members of the community to the land, a kind of natural vitalism. In a time of economic crisis and on the brink of the Second World War, the survival strategy of the community leads to a “social experiment”, i.e., entering into a social pact between the landowners and the crofters.

Silvija Borovnik: Znani, neznani Prežihov Voranc. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 17–32.
Razprava si kot izhodišče za raziskovalno opazovanje zastavlja dvoje vprašanj, prvo, ali namreč zares dobro poznamo literarno delo znanega in kanoniziranega pisatelja Prežihovega Voranca, in drugo, ali je bil pisatelj socialni realist v vsej svoji umetniški zavesti in praksi. Na obe vprašanji skušamo odgovoriti z analizo primerov iz Prežihove manj znane zgodnje proze. Le-ta je dosegljiva v Prežihovem Zbranem delu I–III kot Nezbrane novele in črtice (1909–1927), Nezbrane novele in črtice (1939–1941) in Naši mejniki (1945–1948).

Silvija Borovnik: The Known, the Unknown Prežihov Voranc. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 17–32.
As a point of departure for research observation the discussion poses two questions: Do we really have a good knowledge of the literary work of the well known and canonised writer Prežihov Voranc? Was the writer a social realist in all of his artistic consciousness and practice? We attempt to answer both questions with an analysis of examples from Prežih’s less known early prose, as is accessible to us in Zbrano delo I–III as well as in Nezbrane novele in črtice (1909–1927), Nezbrane novele in črtice (1939–1941) and Naši mejniki (1945–1948).

Miran Štuhec: Družbeni, zgodovinski, moralni in pripovedni vidiki Vorančeve proze. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 33–40.
Razprava prinaša uvid v glavne določnice književnega opusa Prežihovega Voranca. S pomočjo novel Kurjak in Samorastniki, romana Požganica in potopisa Gosposvetsko polje opozarja na pisateljevo literariziranje socialne in moralne problematike, epsko širino ter izjemno subtilnost, na premišljeno naracijo ter na daljnovidnost pri opisovanju narodnopolitičnih razmer na avstrijskem Koroškem.

Miran Štuhec: Social, Historical, Moral and Narrative Aspects of Voranc’s Prose. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 33–40.
The discussion offers an insight into the principal determinants of Prežihov Voranc’s literary opus. With the aid of the short stories Kurjak and Samorastniki, the novel Požganica and the travelogue Gosposvetsko polje it highlights the writer’s literarisation of social and moral issues, his epic breadth and extraordinary subtlety and his carefully considered narration, as well as his farsightedness in the description of national-political conditions in the Carinthia region of Austria.

Vladka Tucovič: Ljudska pesem v romanih Prežihovega Voranca Doberdob in Jamnica. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 41–52.
Prispevek predstavlja prirejeni del širše folkloristično-literarnovedne raziskave o medbesedilni in intermedialni povezavi slovenske ljudske glasbe (besedila in melodije ljudskih pesmi, njihovega konteksta, godčevstva, ljudskih plesov itd.) in umetnih proznih in delno dramskih besedil iz obdobja med letoma 1930 in 1950, ki so jih ustvarili Miško Kranjec, Ivan Potrč, Anton Ingolič, Prežihov Voranc in Ciril Kosmač, s posebnim poudarkom na dveh romanih Prežihovega Voranca, Doberdob (1940) in Jamnica (1945). Metodološko je podprt s teorijo medbesedilnega navezovanja, ki ga je na Slovenskem utemeljil Marko Juvan, v folkloristiki pa aplicirala Marjetka Golež Kaučič. Slovensko ljudsko glasbeno izročilo je v umetnih proznih besedilih preoblikovano na dva načina: kot pribesedilna kazalka citatnosti v naslovih in motih (zvrstna navezava, citat ali variacija naslova, moto), na ravni besedilnega sveta (variacija na temo, izposoja oseb, dogodkov in prizorišč), na ravni jezikovnega izraza (empirični citati in parafraze) in kot t. i. »kontekst v kontekstu«: literarni prostor in čas predstavljata kontekst ljudske pesmi.

Vladka Tucovič: Folksong in Prežihov Voranc’s Novels Doberdob and Jamnica. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 41–52.
The article represents a reworking of part of broader folklore-literary science research on the intertextual and intermedia connections of Slovene folk music (the texts and melodies of folk songs, their context, folk music making, folk dances, etc.) and artistic prose, and to some extent dramatic texts, from the period between 1930 and 1950, as created by Miško Kranjec, Ivan Potrč, Anton Ingolič, Prežihov Voranc and Ciril Kosmač, with a special emphasis on two novels by Prežihov Voranc, Doberdob (1940) and Jamnica (1945). Methodologically it is supported by the theory of intertextuality that was established in the Slovene sphere by Marko Juvan and applied to the study of folklore by Marjetka Golež Kaučič. In artistic prose texts the Slovene folk music tradition is transformed in two ways: as a co-textual cross-reference of quotation in titles and mottos (genre connection, quotation or variation of a title, motto), on the level of the text world (variation on a theme, borrowing of characters, events and settings), on the level of linguistic expression (empirical quotations and paraphrases) and as so-called “context in context”: the literary space and time represent the context of folksong.

Jožica Čeh Steger: Ekološko usmerjena literarna veda in Prežihove samorastniške novele. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 53–62.
Ekokritika oziroma kulturna ekologija kot ena najsodobnejših literarnovednih disciplin temelji na podmeni o zapletenih analogijah med naravnimi in kulturnimi ekosistemi. V središče svojega raziskovanja je umestila razmerje med naravo in kulturo, saj želi preseči tradicionalno miselnost o njunem nasprotju. Zavzema se za funkcijski model književnosti, v okviru katerega se le-ta vzpostavlja kot kulturnokritični metadiskurz, imaginativni protidiskurz in reintegrativni interdiskurz. V Prežihovih Samorastnikih je narava razumljena v tradicionalnem smislu, vendar se nasprotje med njo in kulturo v celoti ne pokriva z drugimi binomi (žensko/moško, čustvo/razum idr.). V prispevku so samorastniške novele opazovane z vidika kulturnokritične in protidiskurzivne funkcije.

Jožica Čeh Steger: Ecologically Oriented Literary Science and Prežihov’s Short Stories Samorastniki. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 53–62.
As one of the most contemporary literary science disciplines, cultural ecology is based on the hypothesis of complex analogies between natural and cultural ecosystems. At the centre of its research is the relationship between nature and culture, as it seeks to go beyond traditional thinking about their opposition. It advocates a functional model of literature, within the framework of which literature establishes itself as cultural-critical metadiscourse, imaginative antidiscourse and reintegrative interdiscourse. In Prežih’s Samorastniki nature is understood in the traditional sense; however, the opposition between nature and culture as a whole does not correspond entirely to other binomials (female/male, emotion/intellect, etc.). In the article the short stories of Samorastniki are observed from the viewpoint of cultural-critical and antidiscursive function.

Blanka Bošnjak: Kratka potopisna besedila Prežihovega Voranca. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 63–76.
Kratka potopisna besedila v zbirkah Od Kotelj do Belih vod (1945) ter Borba na tujih tleh (1946) z vidika indikatorjev potopisne literature kažejo na to, da je v obeh zbirkah prisotna dokumentarna naravnanost tekstov s subjektivno prisotnostjo avtorja, ki služi informiranju, v ospredju so reference na socialno in politično življenje, reprezentacija časa in prostora. Teksti obeh zbirk vsebujejo poleg teh značilnosti potopisa še različne narativne postopke in retorično podana realna dejstva, kar jim daje strukturni značaj literarnega potopisa (reportaže), zaradi prevladujočih estetskih znakov ter besedilnih fikcijskih signalov v nekaterih besedilih pa deloma tudi pripovedne proze.

Blanka Bošnjak: The Short Travelogue Texts of Prežihov Voranc. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 63–76.
From the viewpoint of the indicators of travelogue literature, the short travelogue texts in the collections Od Kotelj do Belih vod (1945) and Borba na tujih tleh (1946) reveal the documentary orientation of the texts along with the subjective presence of the author, who serves to provide information; at the fore are references to social and political life, as well as representations of time and space. In addition to these characteristics of the travelogue journal the texts in both collections also contain various narrative approaches and rhetorically provided real facts, lending them the structural character of the literary travelogue, due to the prevailing aesthetic characteristics and the textual fictional signals the certain texts are approaching narrative prose.

Erwin Köstler: Pojavne oblike memorije in spomina v literarnih delih Prežihovega Voranca. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 77–87.
Prežihov Voranc je avtor, ki je v svojih pripovedih, reportažah in potopisih v velikem obsegu in na različnih (med)besedilnih ravneh tematiziral memorijo in spomin. Na podlagi koncepta kolektivne memorije Jana Assmanna in aktualnih preučevanj o uporabnosti koncepta za literarnozgodovinsko metodologijo, razprava ob selektivnih primerih obravnava različne funkcije teh tematizacij, zlasti rabo mnemotopov in telesa kot »mesta« kolektivne identitete. Pri tem je poudarjen vidik komunikativne memorije in vezanosti avtorja na regionalno kulturo spominjanja, ki pride jasno do izraza v kronotopu poti in v snoveh, ki jih avtor (kot da) prejema iz ustnega pripovedovanja ljudi.

Erwin Köstler: Manifestations of Memory and Recollection in the Literary Works of Prežihov Voranc. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 77–87.
Prežihov Voranc is an author who in his narratives, reportage and travelogues to a large extent and on various (inter)textual levels addresses the topic of memory and recollection. On the basis of Jan Assmann’s concept of collective memory and current studies on the applicability of the concept to literary-historical methodology, with reference to selective examples the discussion treats various functions of these themes, particularly the use of mnemotope and the body as the “place” of collective identity. There is an emphasis on the aspect of communicative memory and the connection of the author to regional cultural recollection, which comes clearly to expression in the chronotope of the journey and in the material that the author (apparently) takes from the people’s oral narrative.

Andrej Leben: Prežihov Voranc in avstrijska Koroška ali o težavah s Prežihom. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 89–99.
Članek prinaša oris Prežihovih vezi z avstrijsko Koroško in njegovih stremljenj za politično združitev koroških Slovencev, ki jih je po izidu plebiscita leta 1920 ločevala nova jugoslovansko-avstrijska meja, ter osvetljuje značilnosti in probleme pri posredovanju Prežiha in njegove literature po drugi svetovni vojni na avstrijskem Koroškem. Pri tem se še posebno posveča sprejemanju in popularizaciji Prežiha na ozadju gledaliških dejavnosti, ki so močno zaznamovale njegovo podobo v slovenski koroški javnosti, medtem ko je nemško govorečim sodeželanom do nedavnega ostal skorajda povsem neznan.

Andrej Leben: Prežihov Voranc and Austrian Carinthia or About Problems with Prežih. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 89–99.
The article provides a description of Prežih’s connections with Austrian Carinthia and his striving for the political unification of Carinthian Slovenes, who were separated by the new Yugoslav-Austrian border after the result of the 1920 referendum. It sheds light on the characteristics and problems related to the mediation of Prežih and his literature in Austrian Carinthia after the Second World War. Particular attention is devoted to Prežih’s reception and popularisation on the strength of his theatre activities. This strongly marked his image amongst the Slovene Carinthian public, while until recently he remained almost entirely unknown to his German speaking compatriots.

Bojana Verdinek: Ob 85-letnici izida Prežihove prve pripovedi Povesti. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 101–109.
Članek predstavi osnovne podatke o izdaji prve zbirke pisatelja Lovra Kuharja - Prežihovega Voranca in prve odzive nanjo. V nadaljevanju analizira različne sestavine teksta: spregovori o pripovedovalcu in nakaže avtobiografske elemente v pripovedih, analizira motivno-tematske ter jezikovno-slogovne značilnosti.

Bojana Verdinek: On the 85th Anniversary of the Publication of Prežihov’s First Stories Povesti. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 101–109.
The article presents the basic information about the publication of the first collection by the writer Lovro Kuhar - Prežihov Voranc and the initial reactions to this work. In the continuation it analyses various components of the text: it speaks about the narrator and indicates autobiographical elements in the narratives, as well as analysing motivic-thematic and linguistic-stylistic characteristics.

Marko Jesenšek: Humornost v kratki pripovedi Prežihovega Voranca. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 111–121.
V razpravi so predstavljene jezikovne značilnosti humorja v povesti Tadej pl. Spobijan – Prežihov Voranc v njej duhovito in šaljivo prikazuje srečanje meščanskih deklasirancev in ljudi iz različnih družbenih slojev in dokazuje, da ima smisel za humor, čeprav ga ne moremo označiti za humorističnega pisatelja. Humornost se kaže v zelo dobri jezikovni in slogovni ilustraciji socialnih razmer, v katerih se znajdejo posamezniki, jezikovno pa se to dopolnjuje z ljudskim izražanjem in metaforiko, besedami v prenesenem pomenu, zanimivimi besednimi igrami ter domislicami, poosebitvami in preimenovanji. Humornost je v njegovi kratki pripovedi skrita v naturalističnem, ekspresionističnem ali realističnem pripovedovanju, opisih ali kratkih dialogih, v katerih se humor prepleta z ironijo in satiro ter se lahko zaključi tudi v grotesknih podobah in spačenih občutjih.

Marko Jesenšek: Humour in the Short Stories of Prežihov Voranc. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 111–121.
The discussion presents the linguistic characteristics of humour in the story Tadej pl. Spobijan. In it Prežihov Voranc presents a witty and humorous account of a meeting between middle class social outcasts and people from various social strata, thus demonstrating that he has a sense of humour despite the fact that we are not able to label him as a humorist writer. The humour is evident in the superb linguistic and stylistic illustration of the social conditions in which the individuals find themselves, while this is linguistically supplemented with folk expression and metaphor, words with figurative meaning and interesting word games, as well as with witty remarks, personifications and renaming. In his short story humour is concealed in naturalist, expressionist and realist narrative, in descriptions or short dialogues in which humour interweaves with irony and satire, sometimes concluding in grotesque images and misshapen emotions.

Branislava Vičar: Koncept narave v Jamnici: ekokritični diskurzivni pristop. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 123–137.
Prispevek je osredinjen na dve vprašanji: (1) Kako Prežihov Voranc z vzorci slovničnih izbir v Jamnici predstavlja naravo in njeno moč? (2) Kako oblikuje človekov odnos do narave? Relativna moč naravnih elementov je prikazana s pomočjo analize prehodnostnih struktur. V naslednji stopnji analiza zajame vidik etične kritike antropocentrizma v ekologiji. Ekološka kritična diskurzivna analiza je pokazala, da narava v odnosu s človekom nima možnosti subjektivizacije. Njena vloga se giba med pasivno udeleženko in aktivno vršilko, tj. med izkoristljivo, razpoložljivo, relativno pasivno in neobvladljivo, škodovalno človeku. Položaj med izkoriščanjem in škodovanjem podpira temeljni koncept odnosa do narave v romanu, tj. reflektira človekov interes po obvladovanju narave. Prednostni pisateljev interes ni iskanje lastne (inherentne) vrednosti nečloveške narave, ampak nad iskanjem lastne vrednosti močno prevlada utilitaristični odnos do narave.

Branislava Vičar: The Concept of Nature in Jamnica: An Ecocritical Discursive Approach. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 123–137.
The article is focused on two questions: (1) How does Prežihov Voranc, with models of grammatical choice, present nature and its power? (2) How does he form man’s relationship towards nature? The relative power of natural elements is demonstrated with the aid of an analysis of transitive structures. On the next level the analysis embraces the aspect of ethical criticism of anthropocentrism in ecology. Ecological critical discursive analysis has demonstrated that the subjectivation of nature in its relationship with man is not possible. Nature’s role fluctuates between a passive participant and an active agent, i.e., between exploitable, available, relatively passive and unmanageable, harmful to man. The position between exploitation and harmfulness is supported by the basic concept of the relationship towards nature in the novel, i.e., it reflects man’s interest in controlling nature. The writer’s principal interest does not lie and seeking the inherent value of non-human nature, but rather in seeking the inherent value in the powerful domination of a utilitarian relationship towards nature.

Vanja Benko: Živalske omembe v Prežihovem romanu Požganica in njihova preverba v koroškem mežiškem narečju,. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 139–150.
Prispevek izhaja iz Prežihovega romana Požganica. Izpisane so povedi, v katerih so omenjene živali, njihov pomen je preverjen na geografskem področju Kota, Plata, Leš, Zagrada in Brdinj v Mežiški dolini, v Slovarju slovenskega knjižnega jezika in v Kebrovih knjigah Živali v prispodobah 1 in 2 (1996, 1998). Naknadno so izpisi iz romana natančneje preverjeni pri izbranih informatorjih in dialektološko zapisani, in sicer leta 1999 v dveh govorih koroškega mežiškega narečja (Zagrad in Kot pri Prevaljah) in naknadno še v govoru Brdinj leta 2010. S primerjavo želimo prikazati, kako se v narečju in omenjenih govorih še danes povezuje živalski svet s človeškim.

Vanja Benko: Animal References in Prežih’s Novel Požganica and their Verification in the Dialect of Carinthia’s Meža Valley,. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 139–150.
The article is based on Prežih’s novel Požganica. It extracts sentences in which animals are mentioned and then their meaning is verified in the geographical area of Kot, Plat, Leše, Zagrad and Brdinje in the Meža Valley, as well as in the Dictionary of Standard Slovene and in Keber’s books Živali v prispodobah 1 and 2 (1996, 1998). The extracts from the novel are subsequently precisely verified by selected informants and dialectologically recorded, i.e., by two speeches in the Carinthian Meža dialect (Zagrad and Kot pri Prevaljah) in 1999 and later also in the speech of Brdinje in 2010. With this comparison we seek to demonstrate how in the dialect and in the speeches mentioned the animal world is still linked with the human world even today.

Marija Irma Vačun Kolar: Koroška knjižna različica slovenskega jezika kot bistvena sestavina Prežihove literature. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 151–157.
Jezik in slog v Prežihovi individualni, umetnostni rabi pomeni in predstavlja besedno umetnost ter normo, ki ju vzpostavljajo in vzdržujejo pisateljeva literarna besedila. Poudariti želim, da Prežihov jezik in slog označuje slovenski literarno-kulturni pojav, ustvarjen s svojsko izbiro in oblikovanostjo izraznih sredstev, v dokajšnji meri povzetih po koroški knjižni različici slovenskega jezika, če že ni literarna imanenca sama.

Marija Irma Vačun Kolar: The Carinthian Literary Version of the Slovene Language as an Essential Component of Prežih’s Literature. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2010. 151–157.
Prežih’s individual, artistic use of language and style signifies and represents a verbal art as well as a norm established and maintained by the writer’s literary texts. I seek to emphasise that Prežih’s language and style mark the Slovene literary-cultural phenomenon, created with a unique selection and formation of means of expression, to a large extent extracted from the Carinthian literary version of Slovene language, if not literary immanence itself.
