Danila Zuljan Kumar: Narodna identiteta pri Beneških Slovencih in Furlanih danes. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 7–18.
V Videmski pokrajini Furlanije Julijske krajine postajata slovenščina in furlanščina vedno bolj slišni in vidni v javnem življenju, tj. izven sfere zasebnega in okvirjev slovenskih in furlanskih inštitucij. Spremembe diskurzivnih praks Slovencev in Furlanov v Videmski pokrajini potekajo vzporedno s spreminjanjem njihovih identitetnih praks, kar v Evropi ni posebnost, ampak lahko proces umestimo znotraj širšega (evropskega) procesa regionalizacije.

Danila Zuljan Kumar: National Identity among Venetian Slovenians and Friulians Today. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 7–18.
In the Udine province of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Slovenian and Friulian are increasingly seen and heard in public life, i.e., outside the private sphere and beyond Slovenian and Friulian institutional frameworks. The present article deals with changes in the perception of their mother tongue among representatives of both communities in relation to the prevailing Italian language, the use of which was associated with a more prestigious position in society in the past. It also investigates changes in the attitude of the majority population towards the two minority languages. The changes of discourse practices are occurring in parallel with changes in the communities’ identity practices. This process is not an exception in Europe and can be placed within the wider (European) process of regionalisation.

Irena Novak Popov: Pesniške strategije Viljema Černa. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 19–35.

Irena Novak Popov: The Poetic Strategies of Viljem Černo. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 19–35.
The article analyses the essential poetic strategies in the poetry of Viljem Černo from Torre Valley in Venetian Slovenia. With the use of the plural form of lyrical voice, the poet allies himself with his people; with apostrophe he summons God and praises his homeland; with anaphora, refrain and syntactic-semantic parallelism he intensifies and unifies the represented universe and creates the rhythm of free verse; and with antithetic composition he confronts destructive forces. Textual genres, forms and modes of expression known from the church service address the taste of local readers, but the poet’s Torre Valley dialect is raised to the instrument of complex individual content with metaphoric and metonymic innovations.

David Bandelj: Sodobna poezija Beneške Slovenije: model angažiranega pesništva med Slovenci v Italiji. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 37–47.
Razprava skuša prikazati razliko v pojmovanju angažirane poezije, ki so jo razvile generacije pesnikov v Beneški Sloveniji. Ker so izhajali iz zgodovinsko in politično različnih situacij, so beneški pesniki razvili izrazito sodoben model angažirane poezije, v navezavi na odnos do drugega, ki je zaradi uporabe narečne podstati še posebej zanimiv in aktualen.

David Bandelj: The Contemporary Poetry of Venetian Slovenia: A Model of Engaged Poetry by Slovenians in Italy. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 37–47.
The paper tries to show the differences between the concepts of engaged poetry developed by generations of poets in Venetian Slovenia. Due to their different historical and political situations, these poets have developed a very modern model of engaged poetry, connected to their relation to “the Other”. This model is of great interest, especially due to the use of a dialectal base.

Jadranka Cergol: Narečna literatura kot značilnost »manjšinske literature«? Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 49–57.

Jadranka Cergol: Dialect Literature as a Characteristic of Minority Literature? Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 49–57.
The purpose of the paper is to demonstrate that dialect literature is one of the main characteristics of minority literature. Previous studies have shown that Slovenian dialect literature arises primarily on the outskirts of the Slovenian ethnic settlement area, in neighbouring countries and even in those areas where the Slovenian language comes into contact with other languages. Analysing the cases of two minority communities – Slovenians in Italy and the Italian minority in Slovenia and Croatia – the author attempts to demonstrate that dialect literature is a very typical phenomenon in minority literature and displays a special relationship to language in general.

Mateja Curk: Govorice dvojezičnih literarnih oseb iz osrednjeslovenskega in beneškoslovenskega prostora. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 79–90.

The paper deals with contemporary literary texts written by authors living in the province of Udine (Italy) and belonging to the community of so-called Venetian Slovenians (Besiede tele zemlje 2004), as well as a literary work from the central part of Slovenia (Čefurji raus! 2008). Taking into account the tendency of these texts to reflect real-language use, ideological aspects of literary discourse based on language varieties from different parts of the Slovene-speaking territory are discussed.

Bogomila Kravos: Beneško gledališče. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 91–97.

Bogomila Kravos: Veneto Theatre. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 91–97.
The article offers some initial thoughts about theatrical activities in the region of the Veneto valleys, i.e., the Alta Val Torre Valley, the Nadiža Valley and Resia, especially those activities that used to join these regions and that are in need of thorough examination. The archival materials should be supplemented by personal testimonies and detailed descriptions of how people received the most popular performances. A thorough analysis of the achievements and reception of the theatrical performances presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate how the peculiar dramatic expression of the troupe came about, and where the key actors found the inspiration to mix the bitter facts of existence with humour. The same analysis should examine how different ways of perception merge into a single theatrical expression that displays the spirit of the time and space. Such comprehensive research of each step in the history of the Veneto Theatre will reveal the axes around which its growth revolved and which connect the region of Veneto with the region of the Isonzo Valley.

Eva Sicherl: Primeri slovenskih manjšalnic z vidika evalvativne morfologije. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 101–115.
Ob primerjavi jezikoslovnih razprav o manjšalnosti v slovenščini in nekaterih tujih jezikih, zlasti angleščini in drugih slovanskih jezikih, opazimo razhajanja glede pojmovanja določenih besedotvornih elementov pri tvorbi manjšalnic. Pričujoča razprava želi osvetliti nekatera teh razhajanj: obravnavo sestavin mini- in mikro- nasproti malo- in drobno- v tvorjenkah ter status nekončnih pripon pri glagolskih in pridevniških manjšalnicah.
Ključne besede: evalvativna morfologija, manjšalnost, samostalniške manjšalnice, glagolske manjšalnice, pridevniške manjšalnice
Eva Sicherl: The Diminutive in Slovene from the Perspective of Evaluative Morphology. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 101–115.
A comparison of linguistics articles on diminutives in Slovene as well as in some other languages – particularly Slavic languages, but also English – brings to light certain divergences concerning the status of some word-formational elements used in diminutive formation. The present article focuses on some of these differences: the elements mini- and mikro- as opposed to malo- and drobno- in complex words, and the status of non-finite suffixes in verbal and adjectival diminutives.

Marjetka Kulovec in Špela Vintar: Percepcija in razumevanje tolmačenja v slovenski znakovni jezik pri gluhih in naglušnih dijakih. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 117–137.

Marjetka Kulovec in Špela Vintar: The Perception and Understanding of Interpreting in Slovenian Sign Language amongst Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students
. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 117–137.
The article describes a pilot study performed at the Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Ljubljana with the aim of investigating the level of understanding in a group of students who use sign language interpreting to follow classes. It also explores their preferences regarding interpreting style. The results are discouraging, given that students on average understand less than 50% of the content of classes, while it was not possible to clearly differentiate between interpreting styles within our experiment. The students’ attitudes and preferences regarding sign language interpreting are also analysed. As the first research of its kind to be performed in Slovenia, the study addresses important issues regarding education of the deaf and hard of hearing population.

Janja Ribič: Ujemanje med povedkom in osebkom v kopulativnih stavkih. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 139–147.
Janja Ribič: Subject-Verb Agreement in Copulative Clauses. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 139–147.
The article discusses subject-verb agreement in copulative clauses with the following structure: [nominal phrase] – [verb ‘to be’] – [nominal phrase]. Subject-verb agreement is not clearly defined in such cases in Slovene. Usage shows that the copula sometimes agrees with the subject complement, but at other times with the subject. There are few theories regarding this linguistic problem, hence the problem remains unresolved. The article briefly discusses the existing theories and attempts to determine an agreement rule based on examples found in the Slovene corpus Gigafida.

Ana Vogrinčič: Polpremi govor v slovenščini: nekateri izsledki analize korpusa izvirnih slovenskih besedil. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 149–160.
Prispevek prikazuje izsledke analize korpusa izvirnih slovenskih besedil v zvezi z udejanjanjem
polpremega govora.
Ana Vogrinčič: Free Indirect Discourse in Slovene: Some Findings of a Corpus-Based Study. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 149–160.
The article presents some findings of a corpus-based study of original Slovene texts regarding linguistic realisations of free indirect discourse. It covers the principal characteristics and functions of the phenomenon, the theoretical description of which is inadequate in existing Slovene linguistics literature. Particular attention is devoted to the forms used for simultaneous verbal actions. Based on observation of the textual corpus, the findings indicate that there are two models of verb form selection for simultaneous actions in Slovene: with sedanjik (a present tense form) and with preteklik (a past tense form). The findings complement the existing descriptions of free indirect discourse in Slovene and offer some basic premises for further translatological, contrastive and similar studies.

The article first briefly presents ecocriticism, as a discipline studying the relationship between literature and the physical environment, as well as the practice of ecocriticism, which encourages more ethical interaction with the world. In addition, the role of literature in generating a new ethical and ecological consciousness is stressed. The main focus is on an ecocritical view of Svetlana Makarovič’s poetry, in order to determine the ethical and ecological message of her poetics. The article also deals with the author’s newspaper columns, which explicitly reveal her point of view on broader environmental issues.

Maja Smotlak: Bivanjsko nelagodje žensk kot tematsko osišče pripovedne proze Jasne Jurečič. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 171–184.

Maja Smotlak: The Existential Unease of Women as the Thematic Centre of Jasna Jurečič’s Narrative Prose. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2016. 171–184.
Jasna Jurečič (1955–2014) was a writer who moved from her hometown of Zadar to Ljubljana, and from there to Sales near Trieste, where she conceived and realised her literary works. For this reason, she is legitimately considered to be a Slovenian author from Italy as well as a contemporary Slovenian female author. Her writing pivots around women and their feeling of existential unease, which can have various forms, origins and responses. Through an analysis of these elements, the article presents an overview of all of Jasna Jurečič’s published prose. It is the first presentation of this author, who was unable to establish herself fully in the Slovenian literary world because of her premature death. Her prose has not previously been the subject of a comprehensive review and thorough research within the context of Slovenian literary studies.
