David Bandelj: Tri podobe v Balantičevi liriki: kri, zemlja in ogenj. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2009. 3–21.
Razprava se ukvarja z analizo treh podob v poeziji Franceta Balantiča. Najprej skuša podati interpretacijo različnih načinov njihove uporabe pri pesniku, nato jih s pomočjo sodobnejših teorij metafore skuša umeščati v širši kontekst. Ugotovitve, do katerih prihaja, so vezane predvsem na dejstvo, da je uporaba metafor oz. simbolov pri Balantiču večpomenska in se giblje med telesno in duhovno sfero, tako da pridobijo metafore v njegovi poeziji od začetnega »zemeljskega« in izkustvenega, nov, »nad-zemeljski« pomen, ki je vezan na pesnikovo religiozno doživljanje.

David Bandelj: Three Images in Balantič’s Lyrical Poetry: Blood, Earth and Fire. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2009. 3–21.
The paper deals with an analysis of three images in the poetry of France Balantič. It first attempts to offer an interpretation of the various ways in which these images are used by the poet and then with the aid of contemporary theories of the metaphor attempts to place them in a broader context. The findings arrived at are primarily linked to the fact that the use of metaphors or symbols in Balantič has multiple meanings, shifting between the physical and spiritual spheres in such a way that from their initial ‘earthly’ and experiential meaning metaphors in his poetry gain a new ‘super-earthly’ meaning that is linked with the poet’s religious experience.

Ana Makuc: Motivno-tematski razvojni lok poetike Erike Vouk,. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2009. 23–37.
Pričujoča razprava opazuje pesniški opus sodobne slovenske pesnice in dobitnice dveh prestižnih literarnih nagrad, Erike Vouk, s perspektive notranje zgradbe oz. s stališča govora lirskega subjekta. Motivno, idejno in tematsko med zbirkami vleče rdečo nit in prikazuje njihov razvojni lok. Že v svojem prvencu avtorica predstavi bistvene elemente svojega pisanja, ki jih skozi nadaljnji pesniški opus le še razširja in poglablja. Na podlagi tematskih sklopov ljubezni, čutnosti, bolečine in smrti se pojavi zavest minevanja časa, poskus njegovega preseganja z vero v obstoj transcendence in končno priznanje nevednosti z zdrsom v pesniški molk. Zaradi okrepljenega zavedanja minljivosti se prične tematizirati spomin in vzpostavi se kompleksno razmerje med spominom in sedanjostjo, ki pripelje na sled poeziji kot sredstvu premagovanja odtekanja časa.

Ana Makuc: The Motivic-Thematic Developmental Arc of the Poetics of Erika Vouk,. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2009. 23–37.
The present paper investigates the poetic opus of the contemporary Slovene poet and recipient of two prestigious literary prizes, Erika Vouk, from the perspective of internal construction and from the point of view of the speech of the lyrical subject. In terms of motive, idea and theme a common thread can be observed through the collections of poems, illustrating their developmental arc. Even in her first work the author presents the essential elements of her writing, which are simply expanded and deepened through her subsequent poetic opus. On the basis of the thematic groups of love, sensuousness, pain and death there emerges an awareness of the transience of time, an attempt to overcome this with faith in the existence of transcendence, and a final acknowledgement of ignorance with a slide into poetic silence. Due to a strengthened awareness of transience the poet begins to address the theme of memory, establishing a complex relationship between memory and the present, which leads to the path of poetry as a means for overcoming the outflow of time.

Jasmina Šuler Galos: Neznani modernizem,. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2009. 39–49.
V članku predstavljam nekatere nove predloge za razumevanje literature po letu 1980 v slovanskih deželah. Pri tem se opiram na rezultate literarnozgodovinskih raziskav Michała Pawła Markowskega in Włodzimierza Boleckega. Čeprav si raziskovalca marsikje nasprotujeta, se strinjata, da je edina prava sprememba, ki so jo na Poljskem prinesla devetdeseta leta 20. stoletja, povezana z nastankom množične kulture, pri analizi vseh drugih sprememb v najnovejši literaturi pa moramo izhajati iz na novo prebrane modernistične tradicije. Izbrani primeri iz Hiengovega romana Obnebje metuljev preverjajo, ali bi ta predpostavka lahko veljala tudi za slovensko prozo.

Jasmina Šuler Galos: Unknown Modernism,. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2009. 39–49.
In the article I present certain new proposals for understanding literature in Slavic countries after 1980. In so doing I refer to the results of the literary-historical research of Michał Paweł Markowski and Włodzimierz Bolecki. Although these two researchers contradict each other in many places they do agree that the one genuine change that the 1990s brought to Poland is connected with the emergence of mass culture. In the analysis of all of the other changes in the most recent literature, however, we must proceed from a new reading of the modernist tradition. Selected examples from Hieng’s novel A Firmament of Butterflies verify whether this assumption could also hold for Slovene prose.

Kozma Ahačič: Skladnja v treh predelavah Bohoričeve slovnice,. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2009. 51–80.
Prispevek obravnava poglavje o skladnji v treh predelavah Bohoričeve slovnice: Hipolitovi iz leta 1715, rokopisni iz leta 1755 in celovški iz leta 1758. Analiza kaže, da pri vseh treh predelavah ne gre za malenkostne popravke, ampak da prinašajo izpuščeni in dodani deli v teh slovnicah zanimiv vpogled v tedanjo slovničarsko misel. V poglavju o skladnji se še posebej lepo pokaže odvisnost slovnic iz leta 1755 in 1758 od Hipolitove (in ne neposredno od Bohoričeve) predloge, lahko pa tudi spremljamo, kakšne posledice za vsebino slovnice je imelo nekritično prevajanje besedila slovnice v nemščino v izdaji iz leta 1758.

Kozma Ahačič: Syntax in Three Versions of Bohorič’s Grammar,. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2009. 51–80.
The article deals with chapters about syntax in three versions of Bohorič’s grammar: the Hipolit version from 1715, the manuscript version from 1755 and the Klagenfurt version from 1758. Analysis shows that in all three versions it is not simply a case of minor corrections, but rather that the omitted and added sections in these grammars offer an interesting insight into the thinking of grammarians of the time. The chapter on syntax provides a particularly good illustration of the dependence of grammars from 1755 to 1758 on the Hipolit version (and not directly on Bohorič’s version). We can also observe certain consequences for the content of grammar ensuing from the uncritical translation of the text of the grammar into German published in 1758.

Simona Šumrada: Eksplicitnost pri prevajanju slovenskih narodnih jedi,. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2009. 81–100.
Namen prispevka je osvetliti problem predstavljanja slovenskih kulturnih realij v turističnih besedilih in izpostaviti potrebo po večji strokovnosti. Ob analizi francoskih in angleških prevodov slovenskih narodnih jedi v menijih slovenskih restavracij ter v tiskanih ali spletnih publikacijah o Sloveniji se je namreč pokazalo, da prevladujejo manj eksplicitni prevajalski postopki, kot so približni prevod, dobesedni prevod in opis. Poleg tega se za isto jed pojavlja tudi do sedemnajst različnih prevajalskih rešitev. Vse to prispeva k izgubi identitete in prepoznavnosti narodnih jedi. Tovrstne kulturne realije so v primerljivih besedilih tujih virov predstavljene bolj eksplicitno, največkrat v obliki dvojice, ki zajema citatno obliko skupaj z opisom, kar omogoča tako prepoznavnost jedi kot razumevanje. V članku bomo skušali navesti nekaj ključnih razlogov, zakaj bi v prevodih besedil informativnega značaja, kot so zgoraj omenjeni turistični teksti, pričakovali eksplicitnejše in enotnejše prevajalske rešitve.

Simona Šumrada: Explicitness in the Translation of Slovene National Dishes,. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2009. 81–100.
The purpose of the article is to shed light on the problem of the presentation of Slovene cultural realities in tourism-related texts and to establish the need for greater professionalism. In an analysis of French and English translations of Slovene national dishes in menus of Slovene restaurants and in print and Internet publications about Slovenia it is evident that less explicit translation approaches prevail, such as approximate translation, literal translation and description. Furthermore, as many as seventeen various translation solutions appear for the same dish. All of this contributes to a loss of identity and recognition of national dishes. In comparable texts from foreign sources these kinds of cultural realities are presented more explicitly, most frequently in the form of a pairing of the cited form along with a description, which enables both recognition of the dish and understanding. In the article we will attempt to indicate certain key reasons why we can expect more explicit and unified translation solutions in the translations of texts of an informative nature, such as the above mentioned tourism-related texts.
