Ana Toroš: »Druga materinščina« ali zakaj so nekatere stvari »neprevedljive«. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 3–13.
Članek obravnava problematiko dvojezičnosti in medkulturnosti, ki se razodeva v usodi glavnih romanesknih junakov, Bubija v romanu Lojzeta Kovačiča Prišleki (2. del) in Aljoše v romanu Andreïa Makina Francoski testament. Pri tem išče stičišča in razhajanja v njunem sprejemanju in razumevanju »vmesnega položaja« med dvema narodoma. Poseben poudarek daje njuni refleksiji »druge materinščine« oziroma »starega maternega jezika« in posledično iskanju ustreznega literarnega jezika.

Ana Toroš: »Second Mother Tongue« or Why Certain Things are »Untranslatable«. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 3–13.
The article discusses the issues of bilingualism and cross-culturalism as they are revealed in the fate of the principle Romanesque heroes Bubi in Lojze Kovačič’s novel Prišleki (Part 2) and Alex in the novel Le Testament français (Dreams of My Russian Summers) by Andreï Makine. In so doing, it seeks junctures and divergences in the two writers’ acceptance and understanding of the »intermediate position« between two nations. Particular emphasis is placed on their reflection on the »second mother tongue« or the »old mother tongue« and their consequent seeking of an appropriate literary language.

Maja Cafuta: Narativna struktura Kovačičevega romana Deček in smrt. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 15–30.
V razpravi nas bo zanimala pripovedna struktura romana Lojzeta Kovačiča Deček in smrt (1968), in sicer bomo skušali ugotoviti, kateri pripovedni načini in kategorije se pojavljajo v izbranem proznem delu, torej kako in s katero tehniko je predstavljeno subjektivno, notranje doživljanje književnega lika. Pri tem se bomo opirali na razpravo D. Cohn, ki omenja različne pripovedne načine predstavljanja notranjega doživljanja književnega lika v prvoosebnem in tretjeosebnem kontekstu. Ob analizi bomo upoštevali tudi teoretske koncepte lingvističnega prikazovanja govora in mišljenja književnih oseb z vidika literarnega stila in sloga (Short, Leech, Semino, Fludernik) ter s tem v zgodbi razmejili pripovedni in doživeti jaz ter ugotovili in poudarili signale, s katerimi se v tekstu prepletata in odražata.

Maja Cafuta: The Narrative Structure of Kovačič’s Novel Deček in smrt. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 15–30.
The discussion focuses on the narrative structure of the novel Deček in smrt (1968) by Lojze Kovačič. Specifically, we attempt to determine which narrative methods and categories are used in the selected prose work, that is, how and with which techniques the subjective inner experience of the literary figure is presented. In so doing, we refer to the discussion of D. Cohn, who mentions various narrative methods for presenting the inner experience of the literary figure in the first person and third person context. In the analysis, we also take into account theoretical concepts of the linguistic representation of speech and thought from the perspective of literary style (Short, Leech, Semino, Fludernik), and thus delineate the narrative and experiential I in the story, as well as determining and emphasising the signals with which the two interweave and reflect themselves in the text.

Alenka Žbogar: Metodologija književnodidaktičnega raziskovanja. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 31–42.
Pedagoško raziskovanje 20. stoletja zaznamuje prehod od izrazito kvantitativne h kvalitativni metodologiji. Za književnodidaktično raziskovanje se zdi ustrezno kombiniranje kvantitativnih in kvalitativnih raziskovalnih metod. Članek definira temeljne pojme kvantitativnega raziskovanja, in sicer pedagoški eksperiment, anketo, statistično relevantni vzorec, ter prikazuje dva uspešna modela kombiniranja opisanih metodoloških načel na področju književnodidaktičnega raziskovanja.

Alenka Žbogar: The Methodology of Research into Literary Didactics. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 31–42.
Educational research of the 20th century is marked by a transition from a predominantly quantitative methodology to a qualitative methodology. In the case of research into literary didactics, a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods seems appropriate. The article defines the fundamental concepts of quantitative research – pedagogical experiment, survey, a statistically relevant sample – and presents two successful models of combining the described methodological principles in the area of research into literary didactics.

Jožica Jožef Beg: Osvobodilni tisk za mladino. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 43–59.
Osvobodilni tisk za mladino, ki je nastajal na slovenskem ozemlju v času narodnoosvobodilnega boja (1941–1945), je pomembno vplival na razvoj kulturne in narodne zavesti, pa tudi na literarno ustvarjalnost tedanje mladine, vključene v partizanski boj. Prispevek, ki je nastal na podlagi raziskovanja gradiva Arhiva Slovenije, predstavlja pomen, značilnosti, uredniško politiko ter okoliščine nastanka in izhajanja najpomembnejših centralnih mladinskih listov s pokrajinskimi ponatisi, pokrajinskih okrožnih listov in vojaških mladinskih listov, pri čemer se omejuje na tisti del mladinske periodike, ki je poleg politično-informativnih besedil objavljal tudi literarne tekste.

Jožica Jožef Beg: The National Liberation Press for Youth. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 43–59.
The national liberation press for youth, which was established on Slovene territory during the time of the national liberation struggle (1941–1945), had an important influence on the development of culture and national consciousness, as well as on the literary creativity of the youth who were included in the partisan movement at that time. The article, which was written on the basis of research of material in the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia, presents the significance, characteristics, editorial policy and circumstances of the emergence of the most important central youth publications with regional reprints, regional district publications and military youth publications, limiting its focus to the part of youth periodicals that, in addition to political-informative texts, also published literary texts.

Barbara Fužir: Ustvarjalna stičišča pisateljic Zofke Kveder in Julke Hlapec Đorđević: primeri v romanih Hanka in Jedno dopisivanje – fragmenti romana. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 61–77.
Roman slovenske pisateljice Zofke Kveder Hanka (1918) in roman Jedno dopisivanje – fragmenti romana (1932) srbske ustvarjalke Julke Hlapec Đorđević poleg slogovnih in idejno-tematskih podobnosti povezujeta tudi podobni mednarodni poti avtoric in zanimanje za žensko vprašanje – ki ju je kljub številnim podobnostim v izbranih delih mestoma pripeljalo do različnih spoznanj. Obe sta predstavili lik intelektualke. V Hanki je intelektualka posegla v lastno intimo in poskušala razrešiti notranje razdore, medtem ko je v delu Jedno dopisivanje lik intelektualke predstavljen kot protipol čustvenemu moškemu subjektu. Barbara Fužir: Thematic Junctures of Writers Zofka Kveder and Julka Hlapec Đorđević: Examples in the Novels Hanka and Jedno dopisivanje – fragmenti romana. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 61–77.
In addition to stylistic and conceptual-thematic similarities, the novel Hanka (1918) by Slovene writer Zofka Kveder and the novel Jedno dopisivanje – fragmenti romana (1932) by Serbian writer Julka Hlapec Đorđević are also linked by the authors’ similar international paths and their interest in the woman question, which, in spite of numerous similarities in the selected works, in places also led to different findings. Both writers presented the figure of the female intellectual. In Hanka, the female intellectual delves into her own intimacy and attempts to solve her inner conflicts, while in Jedno dopisivanje the figure of the female intellectual is presented as the antipole to the emotional male subject. The novel by the Serbian writer is also interesting due to the inclusion of the figure of Zofka Kveder in the plot itself.

Mojca Stritar, Jordi Magrinyà Domingo, Marko Stabej: Jordi Magrinyà Domingo, Marko Stabej, Slovenščina v evropskem babilonu: Izkušnje slovenskih poslancev v Evropskem parlamentu 2004–2009. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 79–92.
Prispevek predstavlja opis jezikovnega položaja slovenskih poslancev v Evropskem parlamentu v letih 2004–2009. Rezultati, ki temeljijo na intervjujih, opravljenih s poslanci leta 2007, kažejo, da je slovenščina sicer eden od 23 uradnih jezikov Parlamenta, vendar sta tolmačenje in prevajanje vedno zagotovljeni predvsem v simbolno najpomembnejših položajih, na delovnih srečanjih pa sta manj pogosti. Zato je za poslance nujno znanje tujih jezikov, predvsem angleščine, nemščine in francoščine. Ne glede na to vsi slovenski evroposlanci podpirajo obstoječo večjezično ureditev.

Mojca Stritar, Jordi Magrinyà Domingo, Marko Stabej: Jordi Magrinyà Domingo, Marko Stabej, Slovene in the European Babylon: The Experience of Slovene Representatives in the European Parliament 2004–2009. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 79–92.
The article presents a description of the language situation of Slovene representatives in the European parliament 2004–2009. The results, which are based on interviews undertaken with representatives in 2007, show that although Slovene is one of the 23 official languages of the parliament, interpretation and translation are always provided primarily in symbolically important situations, while they are less frequent at working meetings. For representatives, therefore, a knowledge of foreign languages is essential, especiallyEnglish, German and French. Despite this, all of the Slovene Euro-representatives support the existing multilingual arrangement.

Darinka Verdonik: Teorija mentalnih modelov v raziskovanju pogovora: Pot k socio-kognitivnemu modelu pogovora? Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 93–110.
Prispevek se ukvarja z vprašanjem, ali je mogoče vzpostaviti teoretični okvir za raziskave pogovora, ki bi vključeval sociološki, kognitivni in jezikovni vidik diskurza ter bi posledično celostno razlagal pogovor. Za izhodišče je izbran socio-kognitivni model Walterja Kintscha in Teuna A. van Dijka, ki temelji na teoriji mentalnih modelov. V prispevku razpravljam o njegovih prednostih in slabostih za celostno analizo pogovora.

Darinka Verdonik: The Theory of Mental Models in the Research of Conversation: A Path to a Socio-Cognitive Model of Conversation? Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 93–110.
The article deals with the question of whether it is possible to establish a theoretical framework for the research of conversation that would include sociological, cognitive and linguistic aspects of discourse, and would consequently provide a comprehensive explanation of conversation. The point of departure is the socio-cognitive model of Walter Kintsch and Teun A. van Dijk, which is based on the theory of mental models. In the article, the advantages and disadvantages of this model for the comprehensive analysis of conversation are discussed.

Marja Bešter: Sporazumevalna zmožnost – eden izmed temeljnih ciljev pouka slovenščine. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2011. 111–130.
Razvijanje sporazumevalne zmožnosti v slovenščini je eden izmed temeljnih ciljev sodobnega pouka pri predmetu slovenščina v osnovni šoli. V prispevku so najprej predstavljeni pojmovanje in modeli sporazumevalne zmožnosti, znani iz tuje in domače strokovne literature, nato pa njeno razumevanje in način razvijanja pri pouku slovenščine, izhajajoča iz posodobljenega učnega načrta za slovenščino (2011).

Developing communicative competence in Slovene is one of the principal goals of teaching Slovene based on the contemporary curriculum for primary schools. The article first presents the conception and models of communicative competence as treated in foreign and domestic literature, then the interpretation and ways of developing communicative competence in the classroom, as determined by the updated curriculum for Slovene (2011).
