Jezik in slovstvo. 5/2005. 3–19.
Meta Grosman: Language Awareness as a Motivating Factor for Raising Interest in Language. Jezik in slovstvo. 5/2005. 3–19.
The article favours language teaching facilitating a more permanent linguistic knowledge, advocating a functional literacy necessary in this day and age. The modernisation of language teaching, which was introduced in some European countries to raise literacy, has shown that the implementation of such teaching requires the raising of pupils' language awareness, entailing an in-depth understanding of the importance of language and its role in human lives, its impact on creating and maintaining human relations, social interactions, thinking, and successful learning. A convincing knowledge of actual language use encourages pupils’ interest in the function of language and motivates them to use it actively. To achieve this goal constant support on the part of the teacher is required; in addition, care for the pupil’s positive self-image, as well as a relaxed atmosphere are also necessary, promoting interaction between pupils and teachers.
Metka Kordigel, Marija Ropič: O uspešnosti dvotirnega komunikacijskega modela književne vzgoje: rezultati empirične raziskave. Jezik in slovstvo. 5/2005. 21–34.
Nato definiramo, katere literarnorecepcijske spretnosti so otroci razvili v literarnoestetsko stimulativnem okolju, in predstavljamo rešitev problema: dvotirni komunikacijski model književne vzgoje. V drugem delu prispevka prikazujemo rezultate empirične študije, ki je merila in primerjala uspešnost dvotirnega in klasičnega enotirnega komunikacijskega modela književne vzgoje in dokazujemo, kako dvotirni komunikacijski model književne vzgoje dosega vsaj enako dobre, večinoma pa boljše rezultate pri merjenju napredka posameznih segmentov recepcijske sposobnosti, ki jih definira učni načrt za devetletko, hkrati pa bistveno boljše rezultate pri merjenju sposobnosti upovedovanja domišljijskih svetov in domišljijskem ustvarjanju domišljijskih svetov.
Metka Kordigel, Marija Ropič: On the Success of the Two-Tier Communication Model of Literary Education: Results of an Empirical Study. Jezik in slovstvo. 5/2005. 21–34.
The article highlights that the communication model of literary education in nine-grade primary school may lead to difficulties for a significant number of children, since they were unable to develop their ability to read literary texts in a non-stimulating literary environment, which is necessary for a successful involvement in literary education. The authors then discuss which literary reception skills children developed in a stimulating literary environment and provide a solution to the problem: a two-tier communication model of literary education. The second part of the article focuses on the results of an empirical study measuring and comparing the success of the two-tier communication model and the classical one-tier communication model of literary education, proving that the two-tier communication model provides equally good, or in most cases better, results when pupils’ progress of individual segments relating to reception as defined by the curriculum for nine-grade primary school was assessed. At the same time considerably better results were attained when the ability of verbalising imaginary worlds and inventive creation of imaginary worlds was measured.
Nina Modrijan: Naslavljanje med žensko in moškim v slovenskem romanu. Jezik in slovstvo. 5/2005. 35–47.
V analizo so bili zajeti trije slovenski romani: Jurčičev Lepa Vida, Govekarjev V krvi in Cankarjev Gospa Judit. Z združitvijo sociolingvistike in literarne vede oziroma naslavljanja in analize dialogov nastane socialno-stilistična podoba ženskih in moških likov v slovenskem romanu na prelomu 19. in 20. stoletja.
Nina Modrijan: Forms of Address between Men and Women in Slovene Novels. Jezik in slovstvo. 5/2005. 35–47.
Forms of address are defined as part of the grammar of social status, foregrounding the study of social relations based on either power or solidarity, which is expressed through certain linguistic means: forms of address. The main objective was to study forms of address between nine literary characters (three women and six men), and the influence of linguistic and other social factors available, as well as the use of these linguistic means. Three Slovene novels were analysed: Lepa Vida (Beautiful Vida) by Josip Jurčič, V krvi (In Blood) by Fran Govekar, and Gospa Judit (Madam Judith) by Ivan Cankar. The combining of sociolinguistics and literary studies, or addressing and analysing dialogues, results in the social and stylistic portrayal of female and male characters in Slovene novels at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Boštjan Kernc: Značilnosti političnega govora v totalitarni in demokratični družbi (na primeru slovenskih parlamentarnih govorov). Jezik in slovstvo. 5/2005. 49–63.
Boštjan Kernc: Typical Features of Political Discourse in Totalitarian and Democratic Society (the Case of Slovene Parliamentary Speeches). Jezik in slovstvo. 5/2005. 49–63.
In the first part the article summarises some expert opinions on the roles of political (parliamentary) discourse and the linguistic features that facilitate the performance of these roles. The second part of the article presents the results of a study involving speeches by Slovene MPs in four different periods of the totalitarian regime (1950, 1968, 1975, 1988) and one in the democratic system (2001). The analysis of the most relevant lexical and grammatical elements aims to show how the influence of a political system and historical circumstances is reflected in linguistic expressions, focusing on the comparison of the features shared by the speeches from the totalitarian periods and those from the democratic era.
