Katja Mihurko Poniž: Pravljice starejših slovenskih pisateljic v literarni tradiciji in vzgojno-izobraževalnem
sistemu. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 5–18.
V članku predstavljamo starejše slovenske pravljičarke, ki so svoje pravljice v pripovedni prozi, v slovenščini in v knjižni obliki objavile pred drugo svetovno vojno: Leo Fatur, Marico Gregorič Stepančič, Marijano Grassellini Prosenc (ps. Anka Nikolič), Ljudmilo Prunk, Marijo Wirgler (ps. Marija Jezernik), Manico Koman, Ilko Vašte, Elzo Lešnik in Sonjo Sever. Ugotavljamo, da njihove pravljice prinašajo vsebinske, formalne in slogovne novosti v tradicijo slovenskih literarnih pravljic, čeprav sočasna kritika ni vselej prepoznala njihovih odlik.

Katja Mihurko Poniž: Fairy Tales by Early Slovenian Women Writers in the Literary Tradition and the Education System. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 5–18.
The article explores early Slovenian fairy tales by female authors who published their works in book collections prior to World War II: Lea Fatur, Marica Gregorič Stepančič, Marijana Grassellini Prosenc (pseud. Anka Nikolič), Ljudmila Prunk, Marija Wirgler (pseud. Marija Jezernik), Manica Koman, Ilka Vašte, Elza Lešnik and Sanja Sever. The fairy tales by these authors introduced innovations into the Slovenian fairy tale tradition on the levels of content, form and style, despite the fact that contemporary literary reviewers did not always recognise their merits. The article also touches upon the possible inclusion of these works in school practice following the didactical goals written in the curriculum for the subject of Slovenian language and literature in primary school.

Saša Babič: Obravnava folklornih obrazcev v osnovnošolskih berilih in revijah. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 19–30.

Saša Babič: Short Folklore Forms in Readers and Journals for Primary School Children. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 19–30.
The purpose of the article is to review and present proverbs and riddles as part of folklore in primary school magazines, which are often also a didactic tool in school lessons, as well as in school readers. The analysis focuses on these materials in the children’s magazines Zmajček, Ciciban and Cicido, and in the youth magazine Pil in 2015, as well as in primary school readers for the entire period of primary school. Particular attention was devoted to units specifically intended to deal with the genre of proverbs and riddles. At least at the beginning of schooling, children are not (completely) competent in the use of figurative language and metaphorical concepts, and are still in the process of learning this use of language. It was not therefore expected that the level of use of figurative language would be high. Some folklore forms were nonetheless expected, at least as a presentation of the separate genre of proverb and riddle. However, the results of the research showed the opposite: the texts in question are mainly covered by tales, and partly by folklore songs, but even these are poorly represented, while short folklore forms are the worst represented. The findings raise the question of the extent to which the intangible heritage is truly appreciated in Slovenian society, even though it is priceless heritage: folklore forms are an important element and indicator of society, its concepts, aspects and experiences as part of the intangible cultural heritage, language and composition in folklore. At the same time, they enable the use of metaphorical expression and the figurative use of language.

Alenka Žbogar: Slovensko ljudsko slovstvo in antična književnost pri pouku književnosti. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 31–40.

Alenka Žbogar: Slovenian Folk Heritage and Ancient Literary Texts in Literature Classes. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 31–40.
This article analyses the representation of Slovenian folk literature and ancient literature in literature classes in the last three grades of primary school and in secondary school. Some of the (probably unjustifiably) overlooked literary texts are proposed for teaching literature (in particular through interdisciplinary- oriented classes of history and literature). Several interpretation concepts, methods of teaching and forms of learning are explained. Both the primary and the secondary school curricula for teaching Slovenian literature and language emphasise interdisciplinary teaching and the development of digital competencies. The method of so-called flipped learning is presented in more detail, along with the possibility of its use in literature classes.

Marjetka Golež Kaučič: Slovenska ljudska balada v srednješolskem izobraževanju – pastorka književnosti? Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 41–57.

Marjetka Golež Kaučič: The Slovenian Folk Ballad in Upper-Secondary Education – the Stepdaughter of Literature? Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 41–57.
The article attempts to determine how and by what means the Slovenian folk ballad is presented in the upper-secondary education process, based on a review and analysis of selected Slovenian curricula, including handbooks, textbooks and e-textbooks. For this purpose, we focus on the characteristics and features of the Slovenian ballad, as well as on the examples and their analysis offered in these publications. We also examine the experiences of some upper-secondary school teachers in regard to the topic. At the same time, the article focuses on the European and American educational space, introducing the inclusion of knowledge of folklore at the undergraduate level for those who teach folklore and the ballad, as well as cases of how this knowledge is presented in international curricula. It is concluded that the curricula and publications that bring knowledge about the Slovenian folk ballad need revision, and that a multidisciplinary view of the Slovenian folk ballad is required. The author believes that this art genre is of exceptional cultural significance and offers suggestions for improving education about folk ballads and the participation of folklorists.

Milena Mileva Blažić: Motiv mesta Ljubljana v slovenski (mladinski) književnosti – Literarna Ljubljana. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 59–78.
Juvan imenuje prostorski obrat v literarni vedi.

Milena Mileva Blažić: The Motive of the Ljubljana City in Slovenian (Youth) Literature – Literary Ljubljana. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 59–78.
The starting point of the article, which forms an integral part of a broader research project, is the thesis that, in modern times, especially after Slovenia’s accession to the European Union in 2004, national languages, literature and culture have become even more important. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, literary studies related to (literary) history, while at the end of the twentieth and the beginning of the twenty-first century, geography gained a new meaning. Thus, one of the research areas is the connection between youth literary studies and geography, i.e., the interdisciplinary connection that Juvan calls the spatial turn in literary scholarship.
The Slovenian ethnic territory is multilingual and multicultural; it has belonged to different cultures, which is reflected in Slovenian youth literature as a literary culture. At the same time, Slovenian youth literature has also influenced the area of Slovenian literary culture, by naming various things after persons and literary characters. This is the interaction of space with Slovenian youth literature (e.g., the motif of Ljubljana in Slovenian youth literature, mountain stories about Kekec, etc.) and vice versa, i.e., the influence of original Slovenian youth literature on the physical space (naming of monuments and memorials after youth writers and/or characters). The article focuses on the period of Slovenian youth literature, and in particular on youth classics (F. Prešeren, F. Levstik), contemporary classics (K. Brenk, N. Grafenauer, L. Kovačič, S. Makarovič) and contemporaries (M. Komelj, P. Svetina, A. Štefan, J. Vidmar, etc.).

Monika Kropej Telban: Pripovedna pot po Ljubljani. Slovstveno izročilo kot del ogleda mesta. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 79–94.

Monika Kropej Telban: A Storytelling Tour of Ljubljana. Narrative Heritage as Part of Sightseeing. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 79–94.
Based on a study of various stories regarding select locations in the centre of Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital city, the article presents a Storytelling Tour of Ljubljana – a walking tour that includes the most important sights in the centre of Ljubljana. This narrative legacy is part of the identity of local social groups. It presents information regarding the living conditions, mentality and emotionality of the people for the periods in which they were both created and passed on. Presenting this narrative legacy as an oral performance has great potential for the cultural, tourist and educational range of activities on offer. In this way, the tourists/participants can really vividly imagine the lifestyle of the local population and learn about their narrative culture. Moreover, the information and tales presented in this way are far more memorable. The Storytelling Tour of Ljubljana was designed to complement the official school curriculum, as well as to enrich the tourist experience of visitors of all ages. Participants in the tour have an opportunity to become familiar with the local folklore and the broader tradition of oral heritage, observing how specific motives were passed on orally both in the local community and within the framework of the broader European storytelling heritage.

Barbara Ivančič Kutin: Tematske poti in drugi izkustveni didaktični pristopi pri obravnavi folklornih besedil
v osnovni šoli. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 95–108.
V prispevku so najprej predstavljeni sodobni načini vključevanja folklornega besednega izročila v kulturo in turizem.

Barbara Ivančič Kutin: Thematic Trails and Other Experiential Didactic Approaches to Teaching Verbal Folklore in Primary School. Jezik in slovstvo. 2/2019. 95–108.
The article presents modern ways of including folk tales in culture and tourism. The tourist offer often gives visitors an opportunity to become familiar with folk tales and other local/national oral heritage in situ. Thanks to its experiential effect, this approach is also effective as a didactic method for folklore texts in schools. This was also confirmed by research undertaken first in 2013 and again in 2018. Pupils from Bovec Primary School were given a questionnaire aimed at determining how well they knew the local oral storytelling tradition.
